Our Story

At the age of five, Owner and visionary John Kish fell in love with watching plants grow. He loved that he could go to bed next to his favorite plant, and wake up the next morning to see a newly forming leaf, a visual marker of the care and love tended to the plant.

In college, as John studied Horticulture, he found his interests leaning towards urban planting. Thus began his journey to bring high-quality greenery back into cities and homes.

Just like that first plant in John’s childhood bedroom, with much love and care, Somewhere That’s Green has blossomed into a magical community and space for all people to come together to celebrate, learn about, and immerse themselves in plants.

Dream a little dream…

After 6 months of markets and pop ups starting in 2018, we opened our (garage) doors to Central Oregon in 2019, humbly gathering in a multi-purpose art collective space with other small business owners and creators. This space had low light and unpredictable temperature extremes, but it also helped create a robust community full of amazing Bend locals who were paramount to the original successes of Somewhere That’s Green.

In the Summer of 2020, we moved our shop into Bend’s Historic Old Mill District, the dream of developing a retail space for Somewhere That’s Green to come to fruition. The move allowed us more plants, more staff, more happy customers, and more space for beautiful plant-related products from other local artisans.

Amidst COVID-19 regulations, shut downs, and precautions, we have been truly in awe at the amazing support and patronage of our community. In May of 2021, we decided to relocate to bigger pastures. We found our new home on 2nd St. and Greenwood avenue (formerly Gear Peddler). It’s a more shoppable, spacious, and stunningly gorgeous building for all our wants and needs we discovered while at our Old mill space. This will hopefully be, our forever home, nestled in the maker’s district of Midtown, Bend. (Bend Central District!)
